Mandatory Drug Testing
Every member of our military forces is subject to random drug testing. Why shouldn’t the people who send them to war also be tested? I believe ALL elected officials in this country should mandatorily submit to drug testing on election. This might also be extended to teachers, doctors, and health care workers. Why do I believe this? Because statistics have shown that there are 14 million illicit drug users in this country, including 3.6 million chronic cocaine users. That’s only about 5 percent of the population, but other studies have shown it is more like 20 to 25 percent. U.S. consumers spend between $40 billion and $150 billion a year on illicit drugs. The sellers don’t pay income tax, of course. Up to $300 million of the estimated $2 billion of daily wire transfers is laundered money.
How can we have victory in the “War On Drugs” when 20 to 25 percent of us are users? Yes, that means one out of five to one out of four people from every walk of life and every profession are illegal drug users. Twenty to 25 percent of college grads get good jobs and are able to buy more and better drugs. That means the minister, doctor, lawyer, politician, veterinarian, dentist, teacher, housewife, and the guy that cuts the grass could also be smoking it.
I don’t mind if they get high and risk ruining their lives. I just don’t think they should be in any position of responsibility.
How many Congressmen and women do you think would object to or refuse to be tested?
