Donald K. Allen for President

Top of the Week

Monday, December 10, 2007

I was recently interviewed by a college student who read through my campaign website and said, “It sounds like you’re a Republican.”  Actually, I consider myself more akin to Libertarians than maybe any other political persuasion.  I’m for the Fair Tax, which eliminates the IRS.  I’m interested in returning our country to a gold standard and dissolving the Federal Reserve.  I want our government out of education, and I’m for ending farm subsidies, privatizing foreign aid, and mandatory national service.  I’ll sign a bill or executive order establishing “loser pays” legal reform and cap tort awards.

My first day in office I’ll order coast-to-coast completion of our southern border fence and improve security along our northern border.  Why hasn’t  Homeland Security already done this?  I’ll draw from Israel’s airport security program to logically improve our own and disregard “political correctness.”

Now, do I still sound like a Republican?  We’ve had a Republican in for the last two terms and a Democrat in for the previous two, yet nothing has been accomplished to truly improve the lives of Americans.  Why would you think that voting in another major party candidate will make any difference?

Our recent Presidents have improved the lives of workers in Mexico, China, Korea, India, and Pakistan to the detriment of many American workers.  Now the administration is working on a trade agreement with Peru.  Is there a big market in this country for copper ashtrays or alpaca sweaters?  Ross Perot was right about the “giant sucking sound” regarding the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and now our Congress wants to increase the decibels by adding Columbia and Peru.  These two countries are the greatest exporters of cocaine.  Maybe the agreement will make this business easier.

I have one major pledge to the people of the USA:

I will never lower the standard of living of a single American to improve that of someone in another country.
