Donald K. Allen for President

Top of the Week

I listened to Barack Hussein Obama’s victory speech from South Carolina Saturday night. Politicians rely on the fact that Americans’ memories aren’t very good. Just two years ago the Democrats running for Congress promised to bring about big CHANGE, and nothing has happened. President Bush promised to ‘secure our borders,’ and hasn’t done it. During every election the candidates promise to make changes, yet once elected, they no longer look back at the promises they made to we the people. They have too many big debts to their party, big donors, and big business. The focus changes overnight.

From respondents to my campaign website, their most important concern is national security. Every day since 9/11 our government has started each day wondering when the next attack would come. Fortunately, the Islamic militants are focused on what is happening in THEIR backyard, Iraq, rather than bringing the war back to the USA.

Every American who has served in the military forces understands that at some point in time they may be placed in harm’s way for the sake of their country. Soldiers march toward the sound of the guns, and right now those guns are in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our armed forces are VOLUNTARY. The vast majority of Americans never in their entire lives ever do anything to help this country other than pay taxes, and part of those don’t even do that.

The candidates talk about “getting the borders secured” but do not say the word, “fence.” The fence is the logical first step. The fence around my backyard has kept it very secure for 30 years. It’s not 100 percent secure, but it is an obstacle to easy passage, and will at least slow the majority of people down. Make it taller and sounder and it will keep out well over 90 percent of people wanting to get in. I will start the first day in office to build the fence.

The tax rebate our administration is hyping is nothing more than a Band-Aid®. Where will those billions come from? Since the Federal Reserve’s vault is already empty, that money will undoubtedly be borrowed from whatever country will loan it to us. The country that wants the USA dependent upon it is China, and they already hold a mortgage on America that we can’t pay. What Americans should do is send their checks back, or press our government to not even send them. We did this to ourselves. Congress allowed sub-prime mortgages to be offered by lending institutions when it removed controls preventing them, and they were grabbed up by people who knew they really couldn’t afford them. Simple as that. Now the banks and mortgage companies are crying because they did not use sound financial lending guidelines requiring adequate income and adequate collateral.

If the economy requires a boost, then passage of The Fair Tax will immediately place far more money in the hands of American consumers, and it will do it every payday, not just once or twice. It will allow companies more than adequate funding to improve their businesses and make building factories in this country tremendously more attractive than building them in China. Our economy will thrive. Just do it. Big business wants the cheapest labor possible to maximize profits, but what has that done to our workforce? It has taken our jobs away. Big business influences Congress and the President, not we the people.

Big business wants open borders and cheap labor from Mexico, in spite of what we the people want. Every president in my lifetime has bowed to the wishes of big business, having been convinced by power brokers that it was best for the country. What our presidents forget is that this country is actually we the people, and they need to listen to us instead.

It’s time for a wakeup call for Washington and all the lobbyists for big business and special interests. We the people are the only interest that truly matters to the future of the United States of America. Money doesn’t buy the presidency. The vote of each and every American does.
